The number of new corona infections in Austria remains at a high level. As announced by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior on Saturday, 5,349 new infections were registered within the past 24 hours. The number of people requiring hospital treatment for SARS-CoV-2 has risen sharply. On Friday there were 1,803, on Saturday already 64 more. 265 patients were in intensive care, two more than the day before.
Currently, 36,590 people are suffering from an infection. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 100,000 people in Austria – exactly 104,925 – have been infected with the coronavirus, 1,109 did not survive the Covid-19 disease. 67,226 have recovered from an infection. In the meantime, 2,232,735 tests have been performed.
The largest increase within one day was in Upper Austria this time with 1,074 cases, followed by Vienna with 952 cases. There were 749 new infections in Tyrol, 727 in Lower Austria, 671 in Styria, 451 in Vorarlberg, 332 in Salzburg, 218 in Carinthia and 175 in Burgenland. In the late afternoon, the Austrian government plans to announce a massive tightening of measures to contain the pandemic.
New record level in Vienna again
The number of people who have received a positive test result in the past 24 hours and who are demonstrably infected with coronavirus has climbed to a new record in Vienna: 952 new cases were reported, according to data published on Saturday by the city’s medical crisis management team (as of 8:00 a.m.).
So far, a total of 31,602 coronavirus infections have been registered in Vienna. Moreover, four people have died in connection with the disease since Friday morning. It concerns an 82-year-old man and three women, aged 61 to 95 years. This means that 339 deaths due to Covid-19 are now recorded in the German capital.
At the moment 8,874 people are actively working on the disease. A total of 22,389 people are healthy again. Yesterday, Friday, 5,712 tests were performed, the total number is 627,158.
